  • Alona represented a client charged with the felony of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in the death of the victim. After a lengthy trial including testimony from accident reconstructionists, the jury returned a NOT GUILTY verdict.

Alona successfully argued that the client’s guidelines were scored incorrectly, securing a resentencing for the client. Upon resentencing the client’s sentence was reduced by 60 months, amounting to a 50% reduction on his longest sentence.

Alona argued that the defendant’s guidelines were incorrectly scored and the trial court granted a resentencing. Upon resentencing the client’s minimum sentence was reduced from 15 years to 5 years and 8 months.

Alona was retained to represent the client on appeal and successfully reversed the client’s convictions arguing that the client’s trial counsel was ineffective for failing to challenge the highly suggestive eye witness identification of the defendant.

  • Client was convicted of Arson of a Dwelling House. Alona was retained for an appeal and successfully reversed the client’s conviction by proving that the client’s trial counsel had a conflict of interest that she never disclosed to the trial court or the client.

  • Client was convicted of Aggravated Assault and following a restitution hearing at which the client was ordered to pay $214,734.00 in restitution, Alona was hired to challenge the restitution order. Alona filed a motion for reconsideration and following a lengthy hearing on the motion Alona successfully reduced the client’s restitution obligation to $28,228.44, saving the client almost $187,000.00.

  • Client was convicted of Murder-2nd Degree and Alona represented the client on appeal. Alona successfully challenged the scoring of the client’s guidelines, earning the client a resentencing. At resentencing the client’s minimum sentence was reduced from 30 years to 15 years, earning him a 50% reduction on his minimum sentence.

  • Client was convicted of Murder-2nd Degree and Alona was retained to represent the client on appeal. Alona successfully argued in the Michigan Supreme Court that the trial court improperly scored the client’s guidelines and at resentencing the client’s minimum sentence was reduced by 10 years. Alona is currently appealing the client’s sentence again.

The Court of Appeals agreed with Alona and allowed critical evidence in at trial which helped Alona and her co-counsel secure a NOT GUILTY verdict.

Alona represented the client on appeal and successfully argued to the trial court that the client’s guidelines were scored incorrectly. Upon resentencing, the client’s minimum sentence was reduced from 20 years to 11 years and 3 months.

  • Client was charged with Open Murder and trial counsel lost a motion to suppress her confession. Alona was brought in to appeal the trial court’s ruling and successfully reversed the ruling of the trial court, and the Michigan Court of Appeals suppressed the client’s incriminating statements.

  • Client was charged with one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct-1st Degree and one Count of Criminal Sexual Conduct-3rd Degree. Alona was retained for appeal and successfully argued that the client’s convictions should be reversed because improper vouching statements were admitted at trial.

  • Client was convicted of multiple counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct-1st Degree requiring the Judge to impose a minimum sentence of at least 25 years, but the Judge imposed a minimum sentence of 30 years. On appeal Alona successfully secured a resentencing for the client and a reduction in his sentence. After additional litigation the Michigan Court of Appeals reversed the client’s convictions due to ineffective assistance of his trial counsel.
